Issues of Importance

Maintaining the Excellence

People move to this town, and specifically this district, because of the schools. We have to do everything we can to remain a competitive option, both for families and teachers. WL is in a unique position - there is a worthy competitor less than 5 miles away (Harrison), and people can vote with their feet and their wallets if we're not careful.

Looking Towards the Future

The district has some debt, and there are payments, bond issues, and legislative changes coming. WL needs people who can manage with a steady hand, and who can offer expertise in some of these areas.

A Unified Front

I’ve heard from several teachers and administrators who are unhappy with the way recent board meetings have been conducted. Teachers and administrators want to see a board that works well as team, that is ironclad in their support for the district and for the people who make it what it is - the staff who care for our kids at the schools. I want to help restore civility and competency to the board.

Communications

The district needs a dedicated communications director. We need someone who can manage WL’s social media presence, and also coordinate district communications when there are issues or emergencies. Ideally, the communications director would also create a newsletter with official summaries of board meetings and other news.

Office Hours

If elected, I’d like to hold monthly “office hours” where anyone can stop by and talk to me, or perhaps even book a short one-on-one session to relay their concerns. I’ve heard from lots of different people that when it comes to school board things (and local politics generally), they don’t feel heard. Other people have confided in me that they don’t always feel comfortable speaking in public. Hopefully by offering a smaller venue to have a chat, anyone who wants it can have a chance to bring up things they’ve been thinking about.

Art and Music

Some people are worried about sustaining the future of arts and music education. I want to guarantee that we will have suitable arts and music classes available to all

Artificial Intelligence

We need to make sure that AI is used properly by all parties - students, staff, and the community. AI can speed up innovation, but it also drastically increases the speed at which mistakes can be made.
